A section of downtown Vancouver BC with a touch of Florida in the reflection. Must be me day dreaming when I should be at work.
Downtown Hartford at Night
The streets of some cities are deserted in the evening as most people have left for the suburbs. That leaves plenty of opportunity for taking pictures of the architecture and lights which create a mood found only after the sun sets. This is a pedestrian bridge in Hartford Connecticut. I combined two images, one sharp one blurred, to enhance the seasonal lights of that chilly December evening. As I write this its summer and would gladly take a quick blast of cool are from the night I took this.
Love Locks
Love locks on the Brooklyn Bridge. I wonder if the day will come when these have to be removed. As far as I can tell the bridge seems pretty sturdy and I don’t think the extra weight even registers. Moving along, how cool would it be to leave a lock and then return several years later to see it again? A funny little quirk of how we roll. Sentimentality is a cool thing when it comes out like this me thinks.
Old Ships of New York
These old ships are docked at the South Street Seaport in lower Manhattan. There are not too many places you can see these but this is one of them. It reminded me of Boston harbor only this is New York. My guess is that a hundred years ago the scene wasn’t much different. My how times have changed, …except for here.
Empty Pier in the Afternoon
I came here to walk yesterday evening. This is the pier in St Petersburg Florida which is empty while the planners decide how to fix it up. In the meantime it’s still a great place to walk or ride with the cool breeze of the bay on a hot afternoon. I love empty open places in the middle of a busy city. A few steps away from the noise and you have a place of quiet and solitude.
Sarasota Public Library
The Sarasota Public Library is located in the center of town across from a park and surrounded by shops, theaters and restaurants. If you stop and take a look, the architecture is rather unique. Architecture aside, I wonder how many people still use the library in this age of instant electronic access. I guess I’ll just have to go in and find out for myself one day.
Wall Art
I passed this wall art in lower Manhattan and thought the shadows added a different dimension to the art. That’s the thing about street art, the environment plays a role in the telling of the story. In this case, at least for me, the shadows and light transformed the art into something completely new. How cool is that?
Bike Messenger
Downtown Tampa
When anyone asks where I live, I say Tampa. But in fact I live an hour south. Nevertheless it’s the closest big city and most people recognize the name. However, I’ve spent very little time in Tampa since moving here about ten years ago. So I’ve started driving up and walking around to take a few photos. This image is a section of downtown from a recent trip. There is a lot more to see and once I figure my way around I’ll take a few more. So now you know where I’m from, even if I’m not.
Urban Sunset
Because I live in Florida there’s water everywhere. Inlets, bays, waterways, rivers, …the list goes on. So this is an urban sunset, meaning that I just happen to be driving by the water and pulled over to take a picture. Every day the sun sets on urban areas, but somehow the fact that there’s a body of water makes it just a little bit special. Don’t you think so?
