These stairs are on the grounds of the Van Wezel Performing Arts center in Sarasota Florida. Actually, I couldn’t think of anything to write about these, I’m coming up blank. How’s this, …Often patrons walk these stairs dressed to the nines in anticipation of a great performance. Hmmm, well maybe I should just let it go. You can make up your own story, it’s probably much better than mine.

Lower Longboat
Thousands of little fish, I’m not sure what they’re called, swim close to the surface and the birds along the waterways are more than happy to scoop them up. This is the southern tip of Longboat Key near Sarasota Florida. Late afternoon is a great time to be close to the water as you’ll always see something interesting and unexpected. The day I took this I saw a six or seven foot shark about a hundred feet off shore (in an area not too close to the beaches). As I said, interesting and unexpected.

Van Wezel Patio
This is the patio of the Van Wezel Performing Arts center in Sarasota, Florida. The architecture and purple color of the building are unique in the area and stand out from a distance. I took this at sunset and was more drawn to the reflection of the sunset than the real thing itself. I’m always excited in a geeky kinda way, when I find something unique close to home, and the Van Wezel is a pleasure to look at from any angle, near or far.

Ringling Sunrise
The Ringling bridge in Sarasota Florida attracts people from all over the region. It’s connects the mainland to several strips of land called “keys” along the inter-coastal waterway. On this morning I found myself here to capture the bridge at dawn and the clear waters of the Gulf of Mexico that flow under it.

Somewhere Else
With the weather just right here in Sarasota, you could linger quite a while after sunset, then walk a few blocks to one of the many outdoor cafe’s. I think this bird was lingering in hopes that someone would supply a takeout meal.

Cold Sunrise
On this cold and windy morning I found myself at a park waiting for sunrise. In general, we have warm weather most of the year here in Florida, but occasionally we disappoint. We think nothing of wearing polar fleece when it drops below room temperature. A few years back I happened to be in a hotel lobby on one of those days and overheard a family at the front desk asking the clerk for directions to the beach. I felt a little sorry for them, this was not a beach day. But, off they went, oblivious to the sixty degree weather.
Sky Dolphins
In the winter where I live in Florida we can go for a few weeks without clouds. Kinda makes sense why they call it the sunshine state. Beautiful, but as a photographer it gets boring if the sky figures into your shot. Of course it’s a beach goers paradise and it’s no wonder the population of our state nearly doubles this time of year. On this particular day we had clouds and it was a little chilly, a perfect time to spot tourists because basically they’re the only folks out enjoying the weather. In any case, I hurriedly snapped these dolphins and headed back into the relative warmth of my car while the tourists strolled by enjoying the warm weather and beautiful sunset.
