Dawn

This is dawn in Sarasota Florida. I’ve been here dozens of times but never noticed this tree, however this time something about it in the twilight set it apart. Twilight and dusk are my two favorite periods of the day for taking pictures. The mood of something, like this tree, is complete and real, yet disappears just a few minutes later. The other thing that makes this special is that I was able to drag myself out of bed to take this photo. That’s no little accomplishment.

The other day we went to dinner with our neighbors and on the way home Dave had the presence of mind to suggest we stop and look at the sunset. And it’s a good thing he did because the display we got that evening was nothing short of spectacular. At the end I think I said something to the effect that I’d never seen a 10, but this one rated at least a 9.5. Nonetheless, I didn’t have my camera so I snapped away with my iPhone.
So the other day we went to dinner with our neighbors and on the way home Dave had the presence of mind to suggest we stop and look at the sunset. And it's a good thing he did because the display we got that evening was nothing short of spectacular. Van Wezel

This is the Van Wezel Performing Arts center in Sarasota Florida. Aside from being one of the best venues in the region, it has some pretty cool architecture which, in my opinion, enhances the feel of Sarasota. I took this one afternoon when we had typical storm clouds in the area but decided to go with the dramatic feel. Besides, performing arts includes a lot of drama.
This is the Van Wezel Performing Arts center in Sarasota Florida. Cottage On The Key

Cottage on the Key is one of a dozen or so eating establishments in Siesta Key, Florida. The character of the place speaks for itself. It seems to me that each place tries to be more laid back and quaint than the next. It makes for a great place to hang out, especially after sunset. Actually, I shot this while walking back to my car after watching the sunset. Jimmy Buffet would be proud. Someone fire up the blender.

Sunrise Under The Bridge

The hardest part about taking this photo was waking up before sunrise. However I’m glad I did even if I had to struggle to stay awake during meetings this day. This is the Ringling Bridge in Sarasota Florida and is always filled with joggers from before dawn until long after sunset due partly to it’s scenic setting and to the fact that it provides a bit of a hill, of which we have very few in this part Florida.

Mote Sunset

This is a shot of the sunset near the Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota, Florida. The Mote is a marine research facility in Sarasota Florida. They are generally making news regarding rescues of Manatee or other sea mammals as well as habitat and ecology of the seas. The evening I took this I saw a shark swim by and after I got over the shock I realized it probably wasn’t so unusual, the waters of the Gulf are teaming with all kinds of life and ecosystems. Lucky for us we have scientists and volunteers at the Mote dedicated to researching and preserving it.

Siesta Key

Siesta Key is a little village not far from where I live. Funny thing is I find the only time I go there is when guest come to town. In an effort to turn that around I headed there to shoot the sunset last week and I enjoyed it so much I’m planning on going back, hopefully before our next guests arrive.Siesta Key is a little village not far from where I live.
