Sundown Cortez

One evening a couple of weeks back I walked through the commercial fishing docks at Cortez. Early evening the place is deserted, so it was a little strange walking in and amongst empty docs. The engines on this boat were idling and I suspect the occupants still sleeping before heading out for the evening run. When I drive over the draw bridges to Anna Maria Island in the morning I'll often see these same boats returning to port to unload the catch. Work all night, sleep all day.

Sarasota Ringling Bridge

Happy hump day everyone, I thought I'd show a bridge to get us through Wednesday. A lot of images come to mind when I think of Sarasota, but the most iconic is this bridge of which I've take dozens of shots and I'll probably take dozens more. To me the atmosphere here is unique and unlike any place else. This is the Ringling Bridge, Harts Landing bait shop and of course the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico. There's a lot more to Sarasota that I'll be getting to little by little, one day at a time. Hang in there people, we're halfway there, Friday is just around the corner.

Vancouver Energy

By the time I came to this bridge I'd already been out for several hours and I was a little hungry. That was soon forgot when I saw activity on this bridge and ended up staying here for another hour or so. Cambie Bridge, especially at night, is a fun place for capturing the energy of Vancouver. Energy I needed as I skipped supper and fed my appetite for images. Okay, that was lame, and lord knows I could skip a meal or two.

Denman Dusk

This is view above Denman street in Vancouver a few weeks ago. If you're not familiar Denman is one of those uber cool streets packed full of restaurants, cafe's and shops. If you like Sushi restaurants you'll love it here as it seems there's one on every corner. I like this area just to walk around and soak up west coast vibes or grab a coffee at Starbucks and people watch. There are a lot of cool streets in Vancouver but this is probably my favorite. On a side note, this is the last picture I took with my Nikon before it broke. As I write this it's still in the shop on parts hold. No big deal, I used that partly as a reason to get a lighter Sony. I was planning on it eventually but the long wait at the Nikon shop accelerated my decision. So far I'm extremely happy with the new Sony.

Quick Trip to Italy

I managed to get to Italy on the weekend, ...and Morocco and France and Japan. Okay, so I live in Florida and I went to Epcot center. In the evening we watched the fireworks show from the far end of Epcot, and when everyone left we took our sweet time to walk out and capture shots of a few pavilions without the normal crowds. This is one of the Italian pavilion. I didn't have a tripod so I had to hold the camera steady against a post for quite a few seconds in order to complete the long exposure. Makes me want to visit the real thing soon, ...with a tripod.

False Creek at Night

I was walking around Vancouver a few weeks ago and spotted these buildings along False Creek. I'm guessing the green lights were for St. Patricks day. The building on the right is the Telus Science Center. When I left just over a week ago the Cherry Blossoms were just coming out so I imaging they're in full bloom now. From a sensory perspective, this city is visual overload, and that's a good thing. ;-)

Cortez Marina

This is one of the marinas in Cortez Florida. Cortez is one also one of the last remaining commercial fishing villages, in fact there was a PBS documentary done here recently. Somehow Cortez seems exempt from the pace of the world as things grow modern around it. I suppose the ways of the sea don't change much and so the sensibilities of this village reflect a longer view than most of us are accustomed to. This was shot a few months ago but I came back here last night to shoot the commercial docs and see what I could see. Of course, not much had changed.

Night Patrol

I shot this last week while walking across the Cambie Bridge to my hotel in Vancouver. Reminded of a ride-along I did not too long ago in my home town. I was amazed at how much goes on when the rest of us are asleep, and I live in a small town. In any case, I didn't even know I captured this until I looked the next day. Nonetheless, it's nice to know that all the things that happen while we sleep are looked after by these men and women in blue. God speed.

How Is This Possible

That's the question I ask myself whenever I get immerse myself into the city of Vancouver. How is it possible that such an awesome city can even exists? I have no answers, just photos of the awesomeness that is this electric city. I used to live in Toronto but now I'm in Florida, I'm an American, I was born in California. Anyway, ...when I lived in Toronto there was a sense that Toronto was the center of the Canadian universe, and in many ways it is. But in terms of beauty and quality of life, it's got nothing on Vancouver, not even close. So here is a taste of the northwest city on the pacific. And don't be surprised if when you look up the word spectacular in the dictionary you see a picture of Vancouver.
