1252 Burrard

I could make something up about this but that just doesn’t seem right. The fact is I was walking back to my hotel and noticed this and, well, I’m influenced by Thomas Hawk and I think to myself, that’s a Thomas Hawk shot! So this is a Rick Schwartz pretending to be Thomas Hawk shot. And if you thought this is a lame bit of writing, or even a bit weird, that makes two of us. Just look at the photo and pretend you never read this.

Burrard Bridge Breezeway

This is taken atop the Burrard Bridge in Vancouver. I’m not sure breezeway is the right word since there is a road between the two openings, but it reminds of a breezeway so I’ll stick with it. I kind of liked the architecture and I doubt very much that this little gem is noticed by motorists as they drive by. But if you’re one of the many Vancouverites that walk on this bridge you’ll recognize this right away. Walking is a good way to notice things (as long as it’s not raining).

Moon Over Edith Cavell

On a recent trip to Jasper in Alberta Canada we were surrounded by the Canadian rockies at every turn. I took this one evening as the moon was rising above Mt. Edith Cavell. This picture doesn’t do justice to the size of the peak. The turquoise water is created by the runoff of the many glaciers in the area, sediment known as rock flour creates a blue-green look in the lakes.

Van Wezel

This is the Van Wezel Performing Arts center in Sarasota Florida. Aside from being one of the best venues in the region, it has some pretty cool architecture which, in my opinion, enhances the feel of Sarasota. I took this one afternoon when we had typical storm clouds in the area but decided to go with the dramatic feel. Besides, performing arts includes a lot of drama.

False Creek Boats

This is a night view of boats docked in False Creek from the Burrard Bridge in Vancouver. As I recall it was pretty late in the evening yet there were a lot of people out walking or riding bikes. I’m struck by how different this city is from most cities in North America, vibrant and teeming at all hours, not just the work week. In any case, as I took this on a Friday night I suspect a good number of these boats were out on English Bay the next day.

Cottage On The Key

Cottage on the Key is one of a dozen or so eating establishments in Siesta Key, Florida. The character of the place speaks for itself. It seems to me that each place tries to be more laid back and quaint than the next. It makes for a great place to hang out, especially after sunset. Actually, I shot this while walking back to my car after watching the sunset. Jimmy Buffet would be proud. Someone fire up the blender.
