I passed this wall art in lower Manhattan and thought the shadows added a different dimension to the art. That’s the thing about street art, the environment plays a role in the telling of the story. In this case, at least for me, the shadows and light transformed the art into something completely new. How cool is that?
Bridge of Uncertainty
Manatee Avenue Bridge on a foggy morning. It struck me that the bridge could be a metaphor for uncertainty. From time to time I feel like I’m crossing a chasm and there is no guarantee of success or what’s on the other side. It can be unsettling. But in the end I generally make it and end up a little stronger and a little wiser.
Tugboat Sunset
A tug in the Gulf of Mexico just off the beach in central Florida as the sun sinks. When I looked closely I noticed the tug was from Texas. That’s probably about five hundred miles north west of here. Then I noticed that it had a satellite dish and several decks. It occurs to me the occupants can live on this for quite some time. It was probably here on a job as I was standing next to a large barge on the beach which is being used to dismantle an old pier. Anyway, all that aside I positioned myself to catch the tug close to the sun as it went down. The end of another day of work for the crew as they watch satellite TV and eat dinner in the galley.
Buildings in Manhattan
I was walking with some friends towards a diner for breakfast and just randomly looked up. I thought this view was cool and I almost lost track of my group as I lingered for this shot. There are a lot of places like this in the city. I think it would be a fun project to shoot this perspective from different locations all over Manhattan. So maybe perhaps this is the first of a series, just maybe.
Meditation in the Park
On a recent Saturday morning in lower Manhattan I noticed this gentleman meditating in a park. Boy, if I could meditate in the middle of a busy park in Manhattan, well, that would be something. Anyway, there was ancient Chinese music being played nearby, people singing, talking and all manner of activity and he was sitting there meditating right in the middle of it. I couldn’t resist capturing a photo yet given everything else going on I doubt he even noticed.
Florida Polytechnic
Just outside of Orlando on I4 is the Florida Polytechnic University. Honestly, I don’t know a thing about it, yet the architecture of the main building is nothing short of amazing. I managed to stop over on one recent trip and capture a few images. This is a study in symmetry and lines. I think if I was a student I would feel right at home here.
Into the Light
I believe we are so much more than we think. That we are intrinsically light and that while here in this life we have an affinity with things that remind us of that. We stare at the fire, watch the sun go down and marvel at the colors of the clouds. It’s more than just that, I believe that the light is love and so we are drawn to reminders of love also. I see love in eyes. Eyes of people, but undeniably eyes of animals. My best friend passed today, my four legged sidekick named Marley. He gave me and so many more unconditional love. And today he returns into the light.
Surreal Brooklyn
This is taken from the banks of the East River on the Manhattan side of the Brooklyn Bridge. A group of us from the Arcanum showed up before dawn to capture the sunrise but there were plenty of other subjects at hand as well. These old concrete pilings are probably leftover from some pier or docks in ages past. How cool would it be to travel back in time and see what was here a century ago. Until that time it will just have to be a part of my imagination and the help of a photo or two.
New Zealand Alps
About a year ago I was in a helicopter over the alps of southern New Zealand. It’s been awhile since I posted a photo from there and so it’s time to reminisce the adventure. The alps are nothing short of amazing as you can see. And somewhere up there are surely a few wizards or elfs; such as it is in middle earth.
