Full moon rising over Mt. Rundle in Banff National Park, Alberta. One of these days I’ll be ready for the full moon rather than running about trying to capture it, as I did on this occasion.

Edith Cavell Meadows
Edith Cavell Meadows is a two hour hike up the trailhead in Jasper National Park. Edith Cavell was a British nurse who helped save hundreds of soldiers during World War I and as tribute the British requested a fitting monument which the Canadians obliged by naming this mountain. When you see it in person it’s so impressive you’ll not forget the mountain, nor the nurse.

Tangle Creek Falls
We found this waterfall just off the Icefields Parkway between Jasper and Banff in Alberta. The highway is one of the most scenic in the world with peaks, lakes and waterfalls at every turn. Nothing short of a north american Shangra La, otherwise known as Jasper National Park.

Ancient Corridor
The Banff Springs Hotel is designed after a Scottish Castle. One day I walked through the maze of hallways trying to figure out how to get from one wing to the other when I happened upon this corridor. Fortunately it was the right one, otherwise I might still be there.

Banff Springs Sunrise
I got up for sunrise one morning to capture sunrise over the Bow Valley from the patio of the Banff Springs. I’m not sure there is any other North American hotel quite as scenic and picturesque. Breathtaking views, old world charm, …they don’t make’em like that anymore.

JPL Dusk
In the town of Jasper everyone refers to the Jasper Park Lodge as JPL. JPL is a lodge with cabins about 10 minutes from town such that it’s rather tranquil during the summer rush. I took this at dusk from one of the many platforms around the lake. A perfect setting for watching the sun go down and listening to the call of the Loons which, if you haven’t yet heard, is a real treat.

Bow River
This is the Bow River in Banff, Alberta. It runs along the edge of town as it meanders among surrounding peaks. When I first arrived I didn’t know which way the sun set, in fact it was in the opposite direction. By the time I figured it out I was under attack by the mosquitoes which multiplied in recent rains so I quickly snapped this and headed for cover.

Athabasca Falls
Large amounts of water pass through The Athabasca Falls in Jasper Nation Park. Here the beauty of nature can be experienced on several platforms that immerse you in the sights and sounds that are not soon forgotten. The water comes from the Athabasca Glacier and empties into the Athabasca River which is a favorite of white water rafters.

Moon Over Edith Cavell
On a recent trip to Jasper in Alberta Canada we were surrounded by the Canadian rockies at every turn. I took this one evening as the moon was rising above Mt. Edith Cavell. This picture doesn’t do justice to the size of the peak. The turquoise water is created by the runoff of the many glaciers in the area, sediment known as rock flour creates a blue-green look in the lakes.
