Urban Garden

In certain neighborhoods of Vancouver can be found urban gardens where residents work with the soil to produce vegetables or just beautiful flowers. The gardens have little plots, each uniquely representing the labor of the local gardener. As someone who walks through this city, I really enjoy the energy that comes from these little havens in the concrete jungle.

Night Reflection

When I take the time to look up when walking at night in a big city I’m always surprised at what I see. That comes partially from my developing a sense of as photographer and partially from living in a small town where the tallest thing around is a Palm Tree. In any case, this was the last photo I took one night while on what should have been a short walk from the subway back to my hotel in Vancouver. The problem of course is that I kept looking up and seeing interesting scenes like this. It ended up a late night.

Library

I happened to walk by this building the other day but it took a while before realizing it was the Vancouver library. Lately I read books from a tablet and haven’t been inside a library for ages. In any case, I liked the architecture of the library which seems vaguely Roman. Well, maybe a little more than vaguely.

Last night I walked by another smaller library in another section of town and I found myself wondering how libraries are doing these days. Lately I read books from a tablet. In any case, I liked the shape of this library which vaguely reminded me of Roman architecture.

Burrard Afternoon

This is the Burrard Bridge in Vancouver. I shot this in the late afternoon when people were out walking and enjoying the scenery. This section of town is known as West End and it runs along False Creek into English Bay. If you look closely you’ll see three ladies sitting on a log enjoying a picnic and the scenery of English Bay.

Yaletown Condo

I like Thomas Hawk’s photography which has a lot of buildings at odd angles. This not so much, but I’m intrigued by the regular pattern of lines in the architecture. This photo is from the Yaletown section of Vancouver and I know that because the name of the subway stop nearby is Yaletown Roundhouse. A place where the rail roundhouse operated in ages past and now a trendy section of town. But then, when it comes to Vancouver, pretty much every section of town is trendy. It’s a trendy city.

Cambie Night

This is looking down towards the Cambie Bridge across Vancouver at night. What I like most is the size of the mountains in the back. Coming from a flat place like Florida I can never get enough of the huge mountains surrounding Vancouver. In any case, this epitomizes this city; always busy, full of life, yet surrounded by the big beautiful Canadian Rockies.
