Bayshore Boulevard

I drove around Tampa one hot day looking for photos to take and this is one I found on Bayshore Boulevard. I'm standing here at one of the many vistas that are provided for viewing the city which is located at the far edge of Tampa Bay so that the water is usually calm and glassy. Bayshore has many large homes with this same commanding view of the downtown Tampa core. I got lucky because these puffy clouds were also present to add to the composition. This time of year we get these hanging in the air which makes for an interesting sky when you catch them in the first half of the day. Normally by the afternoon or evening they either dissipate or group together and form thunderstorms.

Decompressing along the Mediterranean

In the last few days I went from Canada to Florida and then to here in southern France. That's a lot of time sitting on planes and such and so the very first thing I did to decompress and stretch my legs was take a stroll along this Mediterranean beach. The water is crystal clear and refreshing and the sound of the waves was just what I needed to set the world straight again.

Blood Moon Over the Gate

While in San Francisco I just "had" to "do the bridges". By that I mean, drive over and take pictures, ...just like everybody else. I went through the motions but I didn’t have my heart into it. I mean, it's only been done one-million-and-four-hundred-and-sixty-two-thousand-and-seven-hundred-and-ninety-two times (excluding Andriod devices). Not like it's popular or anything. Even when I showed up at 5AM on a MONDAY MORNING there were three other photographers there. I mean, don't these people have anything better to do than get up early on a MONDAY morning and take yet another picture of the bridge? Good grief, some people. Anyway, I stuck around looking for a unique angle that hadn't been done before, how hard could that be? Those other pesky photographers finally left and I was about also when I looked back and noticed that the Blood moon had popped up over the bridge. How lucky is that? I quickly took my shot and I think I may be the only person in the world to have a shot of the Blood Moon over the Golden Gate. I’m currently in negotiations with Hogwarts to have this hung in the grand hall, but I wanted you all to be the first to see it.

Skyway at Night

The most iconic bridge in Tampa Bay is the Skyway. I was in Bradenton before dawn and looked over to see it lit up over the calm waters of the bay. As the crow flies I'm about six miles away yet still it commands attention if you happen to look that way. I was standing next to a much smaller bridge that connects to Anna Maria Island and my idea was to take a picture of that bridge instead, but the Skyway won the day. I have a lot of images of this bridge but that's the way it is with iconic landmarks when you're a landscape photographer. I just keep coming back for more.

Pockets of Light

I was in St. Petersburg Florida on Friday to grab dinner at one of the sidewalk cafe's along the water. I noticed the late afternoon light striking the sailboats and so I excused myself from my party while I walked to the waters edge for this shot. Actually, I was spying it from the time we drove up and I was pretty excited. So excited in fact that I forgot to pay the parking meter, I was more worried about grabbing my camera and getting here before the light changed. The rest of the evening we enjoyed a nice meal and wine as we sheltered from the rain under huge sidewalk umbrella. Finally when it was time to go we walked back to the car where I had a twenty-five dollar parking ticket. Oh well, I suppose that's a small price to pay for catching this particular pocket of light.

California Street Doorman

One day while in San Francisco I walked around the central part of the city. An afternoon walk can seem like quite a trek when you factor in the steep hills of the city. This scene was taken at the top of a hill on California Street as I was resting from an intense trek up. People who walk in this city must be pretty fit. I was dressed in long pants and long sleeves expecting cooler weather but it was quite warm. San Francisco can be unpredictable that way. This is a section of town where some of the architecture reflects victorian influences of the well heeled residents that live here. I, on the other hand, had to rely on my not so well heeled boots to walk back down to my hotel.

Sunday at the Beach

While visiting San Francisco I found myself with some free time on a Sunday. I ended up here at the beach at Point Lobos on the western end of the city. With perfect weather it turned out to be a picture perfect day (pun intended). The waves are bigger and water cooler than back home on the gulf coast of Florida, nonetheless each has its own unique beauty. In fact, there was a pod of humpback whales that passed by. Everyone stood up and pointed to the spouts and flukes as they lumbered along. Later I walked along a trail and enjoyed a sunset at another remote beach not far from here. It's no wonder many consider San Francisco the most beautiful city in the USA.

Cortez Village

The town of Cortez in Florida is one of the last remaining fishing villages left on the East coast of the United States. We come here to a dockside restaurant call Star Fish Market to have some fish and enjoy scenery and village atmosphere. It’s also a magnet for seabirds that feed off the scraps from the fishing boats. Right now the restaurant is in summer shutdown which lasts a few weeks. Hopefully the fishermen are still working though or these birds will have to find another place to get their scraps.

Nokomis Lifeguard Stand

My how time flies, I was last here a little over two years ago. I shot from almost the exact same location at around the same time, but the results are quite different. For one, I used a different lens. For another, I used textures on this. My style and inclinations change over time and so I'm finding that if I go back to some of my favorite locations a shoot again, the results are quite different.
