Sarasota Island Park is one of my favorite places to go for local photography. Just before sunset the shadows play on the walkway, something I like to capture. I pick a spot and wait for someone to walk through the frame; a street photography trick. In this case, it’s the curve of the sidewalk and the shadows that I look for, and lucky me I got the whole family, a three for one deal.
Pier at Dusk
Obtain Fine Art Print
This is the pier along the causeway on the way to the beach. A lot of locals prefer it because you can park right here and bring your dog. And so it was with me and my dog a couple of nights ago. We walked along the causeway at dusk taking in the colors and scenery as everyone else drove to and from the parking lots at the beach.
End of Another Day
If you drive up and down the gulf coast of Florida it’s amazing how many parks are named Sunset Park. But then you soon realize it’s for good reason. This is a picture of my wife sitting on a swing with our dog Mr. Wiggles at Honeymoon Island State Park in Dunedin Florida. It was our first time here and we lucked out with a great sunset. We had meant to leave earlier, but when we noticed the clouds and the sun we just had to stay an extra hour to take it all in. Mr. Wiggles was fine with that.
Walk at Sunset
Someone walks along the shore as the sun recedes. Now get out and enjoy the weekend (say’s me to myself). ;-0
Friday at the Park
Another shot of of the sunset at Robert F. Wagner park in lower Manhattan. It was such an idyllic setting that I took a tonne of pictures from every angle. This was one of the last shots as the sun when down and right after this Scott and I turned around and grabbed a table at an Italian restaurant with this very same view.
Skyscraper
To me this looks a little like a scraper of the sky. These are the clouds just as a thunderstorm passed only a few minutes earlier and just as the sun was setting, casting hues and colors across the sky. At that moment it looked so awesome that I had to scrape a bit of it up for myself. Lucky for you I saved a little.
Just Before Dusk
I took this from a kayak launch just before the bridge to Anna Maria Island. This little guy was out feeding alone but I’m sure he knew where the others in his flock were. These waters are shallow enough that you could walk several hundred yards out with your fishing pole, as long as you keep track of the tide. Kind of a nice way to end the day.
Empty Pier in the Afternoon
I came here to walk yesterday evening. This is the pier in St Petersburg Florida which is empty while the planners decide how to fix it up. In the meantime it’s still a great place to walk or ride with the cool breeze of the bay on a hot afternoon. I love empty open places in the middle of a busy city. A few steps away from the noise and you have a place of quiet and solitude.
Sunset Fishing
Perhaps because I live in Florida one of my main subjects are sunsets. Good sunsets can be a little elusive. Only about half of the time I go out do I even get one due to offshore cloud layers. And then much less than half of those are what I’d call “good ones”. Maybe it’s like fishing, you’ll usually get a nibble and occasionally get fish. But if you keep doing it you eventually get the “big one”. I hope the fisherman in this photo was as lucky as me.
Wagner Park Sunset
This is just north of Battery Park and probably one of the best places in lower Manhattan to watch a sunset. There is a grass lawn, wide benches, and nice little Italian restaurant just below here where you can forget for a minute that you are in a big city. After my friend Scott and I finished taking pictures we had dinner here and then headed up to midtown to check that out as well. There just wasn’t enough time in the day to do everything we wanted to do, but this was probably the highlight of what we did manage to see.
