A recent sunset at Emerson Point Preserve. Emerson Point Preserve is a 365 acre preserve located at the tip of Snead Island in western Palmetto, Florida. One of these days I’m going to take a Kayak through here, but in the meantime the hiking trails and photo opportunities keep me coming back for more.

This is a chamber in the Banff Springs Hotel which to me looks like it belongs to a king. I’m sure there’s another name for this room, but the first time I saw it King’s Chamber came to mind. The architecture of the Banff Springs is designed after a Scottish castle and with rooms like this you could easily be transported to another place and time.

I’ve been through Dallas hundreds of times at the airport but recently I stayed there for a couple of days. On that trip I had an hour to walk around downtown on a Sunday. My impressions were that it’s flat, lots of tall buildings, lots of glass, and deserted on weekends. I need to go back on a week day.

Late one afternoon I found myself with camera heading to Siesta Key and stopped at the bridge to snap this. I saw a couple of dolphins swim by but as is usually the case had the wrong lens. Now if you could just imagine dolphins swimming by this picture would be complete.

Looking for Margaritaville? Nokomis might fit the bill; a small town in Sarasota County along Highway 41 with a great beach and, like all Florida west coast towns, great sunsets.

At the very end of Anna Marie Island in Florida is the Rod and Reel. It’s a combination fishing pier, restaurant and Inn. Being at the very end of the island it’s off the beaten path and tends to be a favorite of the locals. I can honestly say that they have the best Grouper sandwich bar none. Whenever we have guest, this is probably our favorite spot for an authentic Florida Gulf Coast feel. Give it a try if your in the area, you won’t be disappointed.

On Anna Marie Island in Florida there is a public pier where you can fish, have a meal or just watch the dolphins and manatees as they frolic in the water. I arrived here at sunrise one morning only to find two other photographers with the same idea. Maybe it’s just me but I seem to be seeing a lot more photographers these days and they all seem to show up at the same spots. Or maybe I just never paid attention and they’ve always been there. Whatever the case, this turned out be be another morning in paradise and I am glad I was there to capture the moment.

This is the Bow River in Banff, Alberta. It runs along the edge of town as it meanders among surrounding peaks. When I first arrived I didn’t know which way the sun set, in fact it was in the opposite direction. By the time I figured it out I was under attack by the mosquitoes which multiplied in recent rains so I quickly snapped this and headed for cover.

These houses are in Bradenton Beach in Florida. I’m not sure how long they’ve been here but I recently noticed them when walking back to my car after taking pictures of a sunset. I think I never noticed because they are across the street from the beach and when I’m driving or riding my bike on Gulf of Mexico drive, my eyes are always glancing at the beach, not the other way. These just add to the fun feel of the beach town that is Bradenton Beach.

Along English Bay in Vancouver are beaches and public parks where people congregate all day and well into the evening. On this evening I noticed a small group of people having a picnic as they watched the sunset. Not far off was a Great Heron taking a break from fishing. I suspect he might also have been waiting to see if any scraps were left from the picnic. From what I could tell he’d have to wait as the picnic seemed to be just getting started.
