Looking for Margaritaville? Nokomis might fit the bill; a small town in Sarasota County along Highway 41 with a great beach and, like all Florida west coast towns, great sunsets.

Rod and Reel Sunrise
At the very end of Anna Marie Island in Florida is the Rod and Reel. It’s a combination fishing pier, restaurant and Inn. Being at the very end of the island it’s off the beaten path and tends to be a favorite of the locals. I can honestly say that they have the best Grouper sandwich bar none. Whenever we have guest, this is probably our favorite spot for an authentic Florida Gulf Coast feel. Give it a try if your in the area, you won’t be disappointed.

9.5
The other day we went to dinner with our neighbors and on the way home Dave had the presence of mind to suggest we stop and look at the sunset. And it’s a good thing he did because the display we got that evening was nothing short of spectacular. At the end I think I said something to the effect that I’d never seen a 10, but this one rated at least a 9.5. Nonetheless, I didn’t have my camera so I snapped away with my iPhone.

Public Pier Walkway
On Anna Marie Island in Florida there is a public pier where you can fish, have a meal or just watch the dolphins and manatees as they frolic in the water. I arrived here at sunrise one morning only to find two other photographers with the same idea. Maybe it’s just me but I seem to be seeing a lot more photographers these days and they all seem to show up at the same spots. Or maybe I just never paid attention and they’ve always been there. Whatever the case, this turned out be be another morning in paradise and I am glad I was there to capture the moment.

Beach Houses
These houses are in Bradenton Beach in Florida. I’m not sure how long they’ve been here but I recently noticed them when walking back to my car after taking pictures of a sunset. I think I never noticed because they are across the street from the beach and when I’m driving or riding my bike on Gulf of Mexico drive, my eyes are always glancing at the beach, not the other way. These just add to the fun feel of the beach town that is Bradenton Beach.

Cottage On The Key
Cottage on the Key is one of a dozen or so eating establishments in Siesta Key, Florida. The character of the place speaks for itself. It seems to me that each place tries to be more laid back and quaint than the next. It makes for a great place to hang out, especially after sunset. Actually, I shot this while walking back to my car after watching the sunset. Jimmy Buffet would be proud. Someone fire up the blender.

Sunset under the Green Bridge
Near my house there are two bridges over the Mantee River, one older and one newer. The locals refer to the newer one as the green bridge, I suppose due to the paint on some of the girders. Nonetheless, from this spot on Bradenton’s Riverwalk, the sun can be seen setting under the bridge as it sinks into the Gulf of Mexico. The end of another day.

Coquina Beach Walkway
This is a shot of the walkway to Coquina Beach on Anna Marie Island in Florida. This is a favorite beach of tourist and locals as the water is turquoise and the sand is like silk. When I shot this, just off camera to my right, a local had backed up his pickup truck and was enjoying a pot of crabs and shrimp while watching the sunset. Now tell me honestly, does life get any better than that?

Hidden Cortez
Not far from where I live is the little fishing village of Cortez. It’s such a small village you’ll pass it if you blink. However it’s home to generations of commercial fishermen as well as the US Coast Guard. The fish market is tucked away but if you find it there’s a little food stand out back where you can get fresh fried fish and a bottle of beer while you watch the fishing boats and Pelicans. Truly a hidden little gem, just don’t tell anyone I told you.

Sunrise Under The Bridge
The hardest part about taking this photo was waking up before sunrise. However I’m glad I did even if I had to struggle to stay awake during meetings this day. This is the Ringling Bridge in Sarasota Florida and is always filled with joggers from before dawn until long after sunset due partly to it’s scenic setting and to the fact that it provides a bit of a hill, of which we have very few in this part Florida.
