Sunday Morning

I took this at sunrise on a Sunday morning. I can recall that fact because on Sunday morning I'd rather be in bed but having driven my wife to the airport I figured I'd do a shoot on the way back. This is where I ended up, which is another way of saying I had no plan in mind. That worked out this time and I shot this from a park next to the pier. Man, tripod, camera and two dogs on a leash, must have been quite the site. But then, no one was there to see, everyone was still in bed. It was Sunday morning.

Kennedy Lake

When you drive through the mountains to the west coast of Vancouver Island you pass Kennedy Lake. There's not a lot of places to stop here and from what I understand the lake is mostly used for hunting and fishing. What caught my eye midday was how calm the water water was. I just had to pullover to capture this scene. I think that's kind of theme with me, must be some meaning in there somewhere.

Tofino Ice House

Tofino is cool little town on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Surrounded by beautiful landscapes, it's a haven for artists, surfers and people like me just getting away from it all. Some of the residents are commercial fishermen and I imagine that not too long ago packed the fish in ice from this ice house. Now its a local eating establishment and a cool place to watch the boats and seaplanes as they travel in and out of the small harbour.

Still Water

I woke up early to capture this while the water was still calm and the fog was deciding how long it might linger. Ever notice how when you first wake up it feels a little like this? In art, photographs or whatever we try to take meaning and sometimes look for metaphors. I think I do that. Reflections, mist, space, calm. I wish I could take this feeling with me during the day. Maybe I can, just a little bit.

Sunday in the Park

If you live or visit Manhattan you know that Central Park is a fun place to go on Sunday. This is under one of the bridges near the south end of the park. You could just stand in one place all day and get all sorts of interesting shots. But hopefully you don't go to New York hoping to get pictures without people. I suppose you could shoot architecture, but mostly it's about the people and what they do, and in NYC people do everything.

Over the Bridge

I took this one afternoon with the sun beating down. Would you riding a bike when it's 95 degrees outside? Summer is nearly over but in Florida we have another six to eight weeks left. The tropical storms start brewing about now and you never know what to expect. So rest of us worry a little less knowing someone else is on the ball with the

Our weathermen and women become a little animated this time of year, and no wonder, this is what they live for, unstable air masses. So rest of us worry a little less knowing someone else is on the ball with the “Kilstron 9” weather radar. This is also the time of year I start paying attention to the NOAA’s National Hurricane Center, me and about ten million others.

Five Trees

This is another shot from Bendemeer which is between Queenstown and Arrowtown in New Zealand. I only had a couple of hours here but the landscape was such that there were compositions at every turn, I'm still finding shots that I took on this day. Lord knows I must've taken hundreds in that short time. It felt like an Easter Egg hunt, running from place to place trying to capture as many prizes as possible. Is it any wonder there are so many artists (photographic or otherwise) from New Zealand? You can't help but be inspired by the natural beauty all around.

Tale of Two Times

While in New York we stopped in here at Columbus Circle for a little snack after a day of walking and sightseeing. While I was working on a cookie I noticed this perspective from inside the ultra modern Time Warner Center out onto the older architecture of Central Park South. If I went back in time fifty or sixty years I could imagine a very similar scene as these buildings (at least from the outside) have changed very little. But alas I awoke from my time travel reverie to check my e-mail and send a text. It seems to me that I stood here somewhere in time between eras with a little bit of both mixed together. And all of this from a building that begins with the word
