This is a shot of the walkway to Coquina Beach on Anna Marie Island in Florida. This is a favorite beach of tourist and locals as the water is turquoise and the sand is like silk. When I shot this, just off camera to my right, a local had backed up his pickup truck and was enjoying a pot of crabs and shrimp while watching the sunset. Now tell me honestly, does life get any better than that?

Urban Garden
This is another shot from an urban garden in Vancouver. The energy in these gardens is revitalizing and somehow the sounds and rumbles of the city are muffled, even though the gardens can be quite small. From what I could tell, these plants were well cared for and quite happy amongst the city dwellers. I vote for more urban gardens. 😉

Hidden Cortez
Not far from where I live is the little fishing village of Cortez. It’s such a small village you’ll pass it if you blink. However it’s home to generations of commercial fishermen as well as the US Coast Guard. The fish market is tucked away but if you find it there’s a little food stand out back where you can get fresh fried fish and a bottle of beer while you watch the fishing boats and Pelicans. Truly a hidden little gem, just don’t tell anyone I told you.

Yaletown
Yaletown in Vancouver is another gem with restaurants and outdoor cafes. On this Friday evening it seemed everyone was out enjoying the warm air and just hanging out. Years ago this part of town might have been a little more seedy, but now the old brick buildings lend it character. It’s on my todo list to come back here and sit outside at a pub to people watch.

Night Bridge
This is Vancouver’s Burrard Bridge looking south at night. As I took this in the summer it was pretty late, say ten or eleven o’clock. Even so people were walking or riding their bikes across this bridge to get from one part of the city to the other. That fascinates me, that so many people in this city walk and cycle rather than drive regardless of the weather or time of day. Maybe that’s why everyone looks so fit.

False Creek
All of Vancouver is amazing, but especially the False Creek section. When I shot this the area was full of photographers and wedding parties. Kind of reminds me of Pelicans back home in Florida. Where there’s Pelicans, there’s fish, you can always tell. In Vancouver, where there’s photographers there’s really cool stuff to see. Okay, I know that’s a really lame analogy, but it’s true.

Sunrise Under The Bridge
The hardest part about taking this photo was waking up before sunrise. However I’m glad I did even if I had to struggle to stay awake during meetings this day. This is the Ringling Bridge in Sarasota Florida and is always filled with joggers from before dawn until long after sunset due partly to it’s scenic setting and to the fact that it provides a bit of a hill, of which we have very few in this part Florida.

Southside Sunset
Sometimes when I’m walking around looking for things to take photos of I can draw a blank. However when I looked up at this building in Vancouver the last rays of the day reflected off the face giving it this glow. By itself, the building is not that remarkable, but the sunset elevated it to the status of a photo opportunity. At least that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

St. Pauls
This is St. Pauls hospital located along Burrard Street in Vancouver. I was intrigued by the old architecture with all the bricks in what is essentially a state of the art facility.

Gazebo
Recently I posted another shot of the beach from inside this Gazebo. The structure had just been built as part of the Tortuga Inn Beach Resort in Bradenton Beach, Florida. In any case I thought the design of it pretty cool, the kind of place I could see hosting a Florida wedding reception, complete with sunset and Jimmy Buffet music.
